Our Story

From Dream to Reality

The story of DoğadaKal did not begin with a hotel, but in a hazelnut orchard by the stream in Oce Village, in the Black Sea region.

A working-class father, a homemaker mother, and three children… Theirs was a family in which tea and hazelnuts contributed to the household economy, and where hard work, production, and sharing were a natural part of life. During the winters, they lived in the city center for the education of their children; in the summers, they returned to the land and the village. When August came, they would all go down to the hazelnut orchard together and spend their days picking hazelnuts by the stream. The young people of the village would also join them so that the work could be finished as soon as possible.

In those days, their father would often say the same sentence:

“One day, my children will establish a business here.”

Years passed. The children went to Istanbul for their university education. One became a marine mechanical engineer, another a literature teacher, and the other a computer engineer. They acquired different professions, lived in different cities, and gained different experiences. Through social projects, they met people and communities extending from Greece to Poland, from America to different countries around the world. One of the most important things they learned during this process reminded them of a value they had known since childhood: Sharing.

They opened the doors of their home to young people from different countries and shared their table with them. At the heart of this culture was their mother, who had made cooking, feeding people, and gathering together around crowded tables an important part of her life.

For a while, they considered opening a muhlama restaurant in Istanbul. However, when they realized that it would not be possible for their mother to spend the entire year in Istanbul, they gave up on the idea.

Because what they really wanted was to move away from the increasingly concrete rhythm of city life and return once again to the land where they had spent their childhood.

“If it doesn’t work in Istanbul, why not in the village?”

On this journey that began with this thought, the eldest son of the family, Olgun Atagün, became the person who transformed the dream they had been talking about for years into a tangible project and took on the greatest responsibility. His siblings and family also stood behind the idea.

For approximately three years, they pursued a single question:

How can we create a living space in nature without disturbing nature?

Building a Dream

In April 2019, they began constructing the facility they had dreamed of.

When the master craftsman left the job on the second day, two brothers and their cousin took over the construction of the bungalows themselves. They hammered the wooden pieces with their own hands and stayed at the head of each structure. They worked to create a place that would be in harmony with nature, suitable for living in, and carry the spirit of their childhood.

While construction was underway, Olgun came up with a new idea: to build private pools in front of the bungalows.

An idea that began with a single mold quickly became reality.

On July 21, 2019, DoğadaKal opened its doors with four wooden bungalows and a restaurant.

What followed was a long journey that grew through hard work, patience, and decisions made together.

During the pandemic, as people began turning toward spaces surrounded by nature, DoğadaKal started welcoming more guests. As the concept of bungalow accommodation became more widespread in the region, a new tourism movement emerged.

DoğadaKal continued to grow within this transformation, while preserving its own story.

A Life Above the Stream

The siblings, who had spent their childhood in and around the stream, eventually carried the bond they had formed with nature into architecture.

They built stone houses with the stream flowing beneath them.

These structures made DoğadaKal’s character even more distinctive: a life not against nature, but within nature.

The four bungalows of the early days gradually multiplied.

Today, DoğadaKal welcomes its guests with 10 wood bungalows, 5 stone houses, and 11 hotel rooms.

With its restaurant, meeting and event spaces, yoga area, gym, and spa section, it offers more than accommodation; it creates a comprehensive experience where contact with nature, movement, relaxation, and spending time together come together.

A Family’s Shared Dream

DoğadaKal is much more than a business created by a single person.

It is the product of a collective effort that was thought about together over the years, worked on, patiently developed, and touched by the entire family at every stage.

At the heart of the story is a father who, years ago, dreamed a dream in a hazelnut orchard by the stream.

There is a mother who placed the table, food, and sharing at the center of her life.

There are siblings with different professions and perspectives.

And there is a family that believes in the power of creating together.

In turning this dream into reality, Olgun Atagün’s courage, vision, and the great responsibility he undertook played a decisive role. The journey that began under his leadership grew through the collective efforts of the family, their loved ones, and the team that became part of DoğadaKal over time.

To Share

In fact, what they wanted from the very beginning was very simple:

To share with others the hazelnut orchard where they spent their childhood, the sound of the stream, their tables, their food, and the way of life they had built in harmony with nature.

What is shared at DoğadaKal is not merely an accommodation space.

Walking along the trails in the morning…

Swimming in the stream…

Moving within nature…

Sitting down at the table together…

Getting away from the rush of the day…

And spending time within a simpler, more social, healthier rhythm…

All of these are part of the DoğadaKal experience.

Because the story of DoğadaKal is not actually the story of a facility.

It is the story of a dream a family created in childhood, and of that dream becoming reality years later, in the very land where it was born.

The dream that began in a hazelnut orchard by the stream continues to grow today.

DoğadaKal.

A place where a dream comes to life in nature.
